Emma Leslie captures raw beauty in stunning landscapes, floral macros and B&W imagery. Her love of food & events helps cafes & local businesses showcase their unique stories visually.

I am a professional photographer living and working in the Blue Mountains and Western Sydney. I photograph the official club photos for many local sports clubs, creating custom made packages, which include team/group photos, fun muck up photos and individual portraits. I am the official photographer for Running Wild and The Blue Mountains Nepean Dance Festival. Events are another specialty. I have photographed the Channel 7 Community Achievement Awards, the Women With Altitude Awards and TEDX Katoomba. I have been a finalist in The National Photography Portrait Prize and Head On Portrait Prize. Currently I work in my own photography business and at Kingswood and Katoomba TAFE in the Visual Arts Department as and Educational Support Officer. I am also resuming my painting career as an abstract paintier after a 4 years hiatus. I have been a painter for over 35 years.

My work is aimed at sharing the stories and moments that connect us as a community. I have a particular interest and focus on the significance of food throughout history and the rituals and small daily habits that often come to define us. I'm forever curious and love to learn, so writing about places and people that are new to me is my favourite, as there's always something to learn. I love to work with community organisations and small businesses that need to share their message with a wider audience. Styling for food and interiors is also a passion of mine and I have studied design at TAFE, allowing me to combine my love of words with the right aesthetic.

I am a closet creative with long term largely unrealised aspirations to be an electronic musician. I’m having some kind of mid life crisis and finally trying to prioritise it.

For more than 25 years, Scott has chainsaw milled slabs from local trees destined for the tip. After a seasoning process, they become bespoke furniture and kitchens, chopping boards, spoons, knives and even eco friendly houses. After study of ceramics and design including wood fired kilns, Scott began designing and building eco friendly homes in the Blue mountains region as mostly solo projects, framing and fit out timber being chainsaw milled and recycled. Windows are made of repurposed glass; sinks, plywood, corrogated iron and other materials being reclaimed where possible. Custom and bespoke kitchens, furniture and cabinet work are the current mainstay. House hold items like chopping boards, spoons knives, bowls etc reflect Scott’s approach to home design and sustainability. Steel fabrication and welding are another skill set in the work process. Fia Lucia is a slow fashion brand, creating one-off, one-of-a-kind, small batch womenswear. Embracing the beauty of vintage linens and repurposed materials. Each piece is made by Sophia in her tiny home studio in Katoomba, crafted slowly and mindfully, reducing waste and celebrating the art of slow fashion. Upcycled Materials are at the heart of Fia Lucia. Vintage linens are made of natural fibers often 100% linen making them beautiful textiles for clothing. And even better many were hand embroidered with gorgeous unique designs. Many vintage linens have ended up in land fill, repurposing and upcycling these textiles into clothing gives them a new life and an appreciation for the original crafts person. At Fia Lucia we take these linens and turn them into wearable art, utilising Sophia's self-drafted sewing patterns designed to reduce waste. Fia Lucia currently offers ready to wear styles of tops and skirts as well as a custom service where the customer chooses their style, fabric and size as well as any other special requests.

I started my pet portarait business to create memorable and lasting portraits for anyone who is looking for portraits that potray your pets personality, and also as a commemoration to a pet that has passed. I use a variety of sizes, charcoal blocks and pencils, mechanical pens and graphite! I enjoy entering different art competitions throughout the years and have won prizes for my portraits, such as the Young Archies. Golden Days Hampers was born out of a desire to take a step back to a time when friends, families and communities used to look after one another. When your friend had a baby, when a new neighbour moved into the street, when your brother was sick, when your Aunty was grieving, people would drop a meal to them. Our lives are so very full nowadays and although we want to, we don’t often have the time or energy to support people in this way.

I was a full-time potter and artist throughout the late 1970s, ’80s, and early ’90s, having studied in Canberra. During that time, I established a workshop and gallery in Bungendore with potter partner, also, during that time worked as a designer and production potter on the Gold Coast, retailed across NSW, and exhibited regularly. After relocating to Sydney, I completed a Post Certificate at East Sydney Technical College, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts. I was also an active member of the Inner City Clayworker’s Cooperative. Alongside my own practice, I taught at various TAFE’s and was Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the Ceramics Arts Workshop at Sydney University. Life took a creative detour—raising small humans, resulting in a long, busy, and deeply fulfilling hiatus. I have since returned to ceramics with renewed passion, a touch of bewilderment, and a shoshin mindset (beginner’s mind, with bonus experience). I have established Mudhouse studio in what was once an old 1940s pool on our property, backing onto bushland in the beautiful Blue Mountains. Here, I create tableware and vessel-oriented ceramic pieces designed for celebrating food and gathering around a shared table. I am relishing the process (most days) and have fallen madly back in love with this glorious, endlessly challenging, and wildly frustrating medium—clay.

Known for her vibrant use of colour, bold shapes, and uplifting energy, Naomi’s artworks are designed to spark joy and brighten any space. For over a decade, Naomi has created under the name Say Rainbow Art, producing a diverse body of work that includes watercolour and acrylic paintings, murals, and children’s picture books. Robert has Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (UTS) and a Masters of Business Administration (MGSM). He acheived an executive role at a USA multinational technology company managing the Asia Pacific Region, before following his passion for the outdoors. In 2015 Robert purchased Summit Gear, a company that retails outdoor adventure equipment as well as manufacturing bags and packs for recreational and emergency service customers. In 2024 Robert founded and launched a new brand - Whippa! Whippa is now Australia's largest designer and manufacturer of Ultralight hiking, climbing and mountaineering packs - all built in the Blue Mountains - Katoomba. Whippa's focus is to design and manufacture packs that are lighter, stronger and better than any other packs available.

I have been working professionally as an artist over the last 8 years, primarily selling pet portraits. In the last few years I have had the pleasure of expanding my business working as a muralist both for other mural companies like All City Walls in Brisbane as well as taking on my own clients. In the last year I have begun taking on watercolour classes at Mates4Mates teaching veterans the art of watercolour. Only recently have I taken on less work to allow myself to explore my medium and style, having taken an interest in human portraiture and landscapes. I am fascinated with the natural world and colour. Over the years I have dabbled in different mediums, however I always find myself coming back to watercolour for its complexity and beauty in not being able to always control what happens on the paper. My moto: If you put it on the paper you have to leave it. Don't touch! Let the watercolour do its job.

I have a B.A in Theatre/Performing Arts from UWS,Nepean 1991 and an M.A. Visual Arts/Ceramics from ANU,Canberra 2019. I have lived on the Ngurra(country)of the Gundungurra and Dharug traditional owners of the Blue Mountains NSW for 45 years. My home studio, Lilli Pilli Studio, is situated in Hazelbrook. I have always been an artist/maker and have worked with clay since 1975. I have also made lead light/stained glass windows, I have been an actor/performer, a costume maker, a textile artist using/making plant fibre paper and basketry. I have also been a teacher in high schools and privately. My work remains informed by all my past pursuits. These days I enjoy the hard work and quiet focus of working predominantly as a potter and sculptor. In 2020 I built my wood firing bourry box kiln and I now fire my work in both my electric and wood kilns. My focus now, as an older artist, is simply to deepen my understanding of wood firing and to play in my studio with joy, intrigue and exploration. I look forward to quietly making pots and cooking them in fire into the future.

Nirmal Jena teaches and presents his distinct family lineage of Odissi Indian classical dance and music. Based in studios in Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains and in Sydney city/eastern suburbs, he offers a deep and engaging learning experience to those curious about the world and its creative power. Nirmal and Chitrita are passionate about creativity, diversity, humanity and sustainability. After founding the Odissi Dance Company in Sydney, Australia to promote their unique Odissi Indian classical dance and music, they have established the Arts and Life Education Gurukul Ltd (ALEG), an Australian charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. ALEG’s core program is Odissi: Dance for Humanity, offering free and comprehensive training in Odissi dance and music, as well as life skills, to young people faced with financial hardship. Odissi dance developed in the eastern Indian State of Odisha, along the Bay of Bengal. Its distinctive technique is based on the chawk (square position) and the tribhanga (triangle/triple bend). The Jena style of Odissi dance is known for its authenticity and for powerfully integrating the body, mind and soul in the training process. It boldly challenges social barriers related to gender, age, ethnicity, class and religion. Nirmal's Odissi can be learnt: - as an everyday practice to build resilience - for performance - to teach - to achieve all of the above.

My latest project is ABC Kids TV series Fizzy and Suds. I am the neurodiversity consultant for the series and I wrote and directed the Episode ROBOTS for Season 2. I’m Daniel Nerinckx-Parker, an emerging product designer based in Glenbrook, and a recent graduate of UNSW’s Bachelor of Industrial Design. My practice spans concept development, CAD modelling, physical prototyping, and visual communication, with a focus on creating products that balance function, form, and manufacturability. I take a hands-on, iterative approach to design, moving between sketching, digital modelling, and model making to explore ideas and refine solutions. I work confidently with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and Adobe Creative Suite, and Keyshot, and I use photography and visual storytelling to present design outcomes clearly. My recent projects range from student work to independent explorations, reflecting my curiosity for materials, processes, and practical problem-solving. Whether I’m designing consumer products, custom installations, or safety-focused equipment, I bring energy, adaptability, and a commitment to thoughtful design that enhances everyday experiences. As I begin my professional career, I’m excited to collaborate with industry, contribute to meaningful projects, and grow my practice within the MTNS MADE creative community.

Life-long local, Blue Mountains based musician, drone pilot, and photographer. I got my start performing violin at a very young age, and have performed in both solo and group settings many times over the years. From the Sydney Opera House in a youth orchestra, to the streets of Katoomba, I've always gotten a special joy out of bringing music to others, and entertaining. I've also recently found the pleasure in recording music, with my violin featuring on multiple releases by local musician Wolf van Der Made (Springtime in the Mountains, Going to the Western Shore, She Likes Pain), the soundtrack to the short film Shattered Mural (2021), among other projects small and large. As much as I've enjoyed entertaining and being on stage, I've also developed a special love for being behind the scenes and documenting moments through a camera lens (whether that lens be on the ground, or in the air!). I have become a CASA certified drone pilot, and I hold a current Remote Operator's Certificate, Remote Pilot's License (sub-25kg), and Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate. Whether I'm capturing the beauty of the mountains, the cosy homes perched upon their peaks, the action of automotive events, or the rawness of live music performances, I bring the same passion and energy to each project. Continuing my collaboration with Wolf van Der Made, I've had the pleasure of putting together various album covers for him (She Likes Pain, Ruin, Nature's Law), and look forward to any opportunities to document or collaborate with local artists.

I formed Wide Open Media in 2005. My background is in film & TV marketing and promotion, working for ABCTV, Southern Star and Beyond International, as well as a variety of smaller production houses. My work includes promotional material for numerous film projects including Idiot Box, The Sound of One Hand Clapping, The Well and Strictly Ballroom. Some of the TV shows include Water Rats, Home & Away, Young Lions, Blue Murder to name but a few. I have designed and consulted on multimedia installations, product launch collateral, exhibition and environmental signage, fine art catalogues and educational resources. I have also worked as designer and project coordinator for a number of Australian documentary films including Mrs Carey's Concert (2011), Once My Mother (2014) and Midnight Oil 1984 (2019). Since late 2019 I have also been a director at One Minute Cinema. Wide Open Media is now integrated with this video production facility,

For over 12 years now I've been poorly hiding in the deep background of un-scripted Australian TV shows such as 'The Piano', 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here', 'Impractical Jokers', and 'The Amazing Race' as well as directing feature content such as Nine's recent documentary, 'Sydney 2000: The Best Ever'. As a producer and director I've worked across some of Australia's most popular entertainment formats and crafted the creative storytelling of international sporting broadcasts from grand slam Tennis to Formula 1 and the Olympics. Along with the occasional hosting gig or VO job, all of my work is focused on engaging audiences through entertaining, emotive and high production value storytelling. Showcasing a broad spectrum of stories into Australian homes is key to our cultural idenitity. How can we best bring people together and convey the somtimes funny and somtimes change making thoughts, feelings and messages of every day Australians. Recently moving to the mountains has given me a new perspective on my work and frankly... allowed me some space to feel creative again. I love it here and I really look forward to being able to colaborate with, learn from and be entertained by the range of local artists that also call this place home.

Having lived in the BMs for over 30 years I draw inspiration from the beauty of the natural environment for my art practice, thus exploring a personal and social understanding of the way visual arts influence beliefs and actions. The motivation for my artwork is to revitalise this connection though art and viewer by evoking an understanding of connection with the natural world as immanent and interdependent. My art practice centres on a social ecology of consciousness that envisions a cultural story relevant to, and in continuity with this South Land of my birth - one which awakens and embodies an indigenous spirit that works with nature on its terms. Personalised 'story' art quilts are another aspect of my work, created in response to individual lived experiences and values, or to commemorate special moments or different stages of life. I balance my creative practices between my special interests of printmaking, making picture books and jewellery making. I have three books published through Loose Parts Press (including bestselling Goodnight, Blue Mountains) and continue to dream on my next project in the cracks I can find in motherhood.

In 1985 I found myself in the school darkroom developing and printing photos for art class. This was my introduction to photography, and in 1986 I went onto study a degree in photography at QCA in Brisbane. There I focused on creating life sized portraits of edgy characters in black and white on a large format film camera. In 1989 I became disillusioned with photography and abandoned the medium. It wasn’t until 2024 in Katoomba that I picked up a camera again. Ever since I have been capturing colourful details of urban structures, environments and rooftops in a minimalistic style.

I have always loved the colours, textures and shapes of old pieces of wood, metal and stone. They suggest to me ways they can come together, either abstract or figuratively, to become sculptures in the landscape. I am developing my skills in forging, metal work, stone masonry and carving, to assemble garden sculptures in which the beauty of the original materials remains the principal attraction.

In 2024 Scary Strangers launched a program in partnership with the NSW Department of Justice delivering improv workshops to children under supervision within the juvenile justice system. The program has achieved incredible short-term results with plans to expand in 2025. My socially engaged practice involves facilitating collective, social food growing and art making within the local Blue Mountains community and with young people in a public high school setting. I am currently a PhD Candidate in social design at the University of Technology Sydney, looking at the role of civic fresh food initiatives in creating greater social and environmental health and community care mending social fragmentation and environmental degradation.

This led Nathan onto continued work in theatre at home in Australia & Internationally.  He is an original cast member of ‘Dein Perry's Tap Dogs’ He featured in the original cast of 'Shout' the musical Australian Tour starring ‘David Campbell’ He was a cast member of the first tour of ‘Mamma Mia’ at the Lyric Theatre Sydney Star Casino in the role of ‘EDDIE’ and also an original cast member of ‘Billy Elliot’ the musical. He was engaged to perform as the lead performer for the Australian Hit show ‘Dein Perry’s Steel City’ which played in Melbourne at the State theatre and New Yorks Radio City Music Hall. In the year 2000 Nathan was appointed as an assistant to Dein Perry for the opening of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games choreographing over 1300 tap dances, and also performed with Kylie Minogue for the closing ceremony of the Olympics Games choreographed by William Forsythe. Whilst on tour in the USA and the UK Nathan had the honour of working with Steve Wonder for the Quincy Jones 25th Anniversary concert, performed at the Royal Variety Performance at Royal Albert Hall for his Royal Highness King Charles. Maree O’Brien is an emerging Wiradjuri visual artist based in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Working primarily in painting and jewellery, her practice is grounded in storytelling, exploring themes of cultural identity, connection to Country, and personal memory. Maree is currently studying visual arts at TAFE NSW, where she is expanding her skills and refining her creative voice. Her work draws inspiration from her Wiradjuri heritage and the landscapes around her, using traditional and contemporary materials to express stories of belonging, resilience, and self-discovery. Maree has exhibited works at the Blue Mountains City Art Gallery in Katoomba and Braemar Gallery in Springwood, sharing intimate pieces that reflect her cultural journey and evolving artistic practice. Her paintings often feature layered symbolism and earth-toned palettes, while her handmade jewellery incorporates natural forms and textures, honouring traditional knowledge and materials. Modern Art Projects Blue Mountains (MAPBM) is a not-for-profit incorporated association that supports and advocates for the development, production and exhibition of contemporary, multi-form art in the Blue Mountains. MAPBM also aims to foster an independent environment that supports the development and practice of contemporary artists and curators and to engage with the wider Blue Mountains community in developing a new critical agenda for contemporary art in the region. MAPBM was established by a group of predominantly Blue Mountains-based artists. It is run by artists, curators and others who are interested in, and dedicated to, the promotion and advocacy of contemporary art. MAPBM has partnered with a number of organisations in developing innovative exhibitions and projects and has received funding from the Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust, Create NSW, Festivals Australia, the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and a range of other agencies and foundations.

No.14 Lovel St, build c1913, has been welcoming guests for over 110 years. Many traditional features remain in the house, with an upcycled /quirky Blue Mountains interior. A great space to hire for workshops, or as a photography location. Please note: there was no choice of just location hire so I ticked Photographic Studio, but we are not a studio. The owners, Annette & Gavin Blake became Accidental Innkeepers in 2017 and have fallen deeply in love with the Mountains. In 2022, Annette wrote the locals guide to everything else, apart from the famouse walks, in the Blue Mountains. "Out of the Blue" is now in its second edition for 23/24.

Blue Mountains based audio engineer, event organiser, drone pilot and musician. I got started in the creative industries while I was in high school volunteering at festivals, helping out at punk rock shows & producing the radio show Retro Rehash on RBM from 2017-2019. I started my professional career with KFM Media/Shelter Studio in 2019 where I still work today as a tech & in-house engineer at the Shelter Studio. To compliment my work there I also operate as a freelance audio/lighting engineer under the name 'Revy AV' working at several venues like Baroque Room & Station Bar in Katoomba, Fairmont Resort in Leura & the Ori in Springwood. While working in the industry I also studied and in 2023 I completed a Bachelor of Creative Industries at UWS with minors in audio production and public relations which gave me a much broader set of skills for my approach to my work. Throughout my career I have had a commitment to helping young artists. As a young musician, to have mentors & role models within the community to help realise my potential and forge my way in this industry was invaluable to me. So I see it as part of my role in this community to continue helping upcoming young artists. I have collaborated with Mountains Youth Services Team (MYST) on numerous projects, events and mentorship programs teaching young people how to record songs and set up live shows. In 2023 I ran a mentorship program that led into that years Winter Magic Festival where young people curated acts, set up and operated the audio and lighting for that year's youth stage. In 2024 I organised, curated and operated the Soul'd Out Youth Stage for the Winter Magic Indoors Festival collaborating with Dave from the Soul Side Cafe as well as MYST, RRT, Headspace and the ACRC. It was a massive weekend and one of my greatest achievements showcasing a whole day of young artists and a following day of local artists and regular performers at the Soul Side. In my spare time I am fascinated by aviation. I love learning about all things that go zoom and building model aircraft. So why not combine my love for flight and the creative industries? In 2022 I took the first step to do just that and got my RePL & AROC qualifications with a 25kg weight rating. So far I have only worked on one project as a drone pilot but it is of great interest to me and I see drones as being a large part of the future of the creative industries.

I am a Blue Mountains-based writer and media consultant with a background in journalism, communications, and public engagement. As well as my own creative practice - writing personal essays, memoir, fiction and arts/culture reviews - I help individuals and organisations communicate more effectively, through clear and uncluttered narrative, media engagement, and compelling storytelling. I have trained hundreds of professionals in plain English writing techniques (via the NSW IPAA and Plain English Foundation) and taught senior subjects in Macquarie University's school of media and communication.

SIRC_UIT is the joint practice of Katrina Noorbergen and Jan M. Walter. Operating as a Creative Studio working at the intersections of art, technology, performance and architecture, SIRC_UIT collaborates with artists, musicians, curators and technologists across digital, analog and experimental art forms to explore and redefine our interactions with technology, bridging the gap between traditional art forms and the digital world. Katrina Noorbergen is a cultural producer, performance curator, and leading arts worker based in Western Sydney, on Dharug and Gundungurra Land. After a decade-long international career as a touring musician and published songwriter, Katrina returned to Australia in 2015. She has since worked in pivotal roles at Carriageworks, the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre and Create NSW. Katrina Noorbergen is the Program Curator for SIRC_UIT, championing experimental performance practices in unconventional spaces, uplifting emerging artists and fostering creative collaboration on the fringes. Jan M. Walter is a French/German audio-visual and installation artist based in Western Sydney, on Dharug and Gundungurra Land, and the Founder of SIRC_UIT. In his practice, he designs and constructs temporary architecture using lighting elements built from the ground up. Mixed with layers of found and reject materials as well as decommissioned technological infrastructure he creates large-scale immersive installations that are driven by custom hardware and software. His work is influenced by humanity's descent into technological abundance, the obsolescence of its own productivity and the absurdity of Moore's Law and what it leaves behind.. SIRC_UIT has and continues to collaborate with a multitude of artists and organisations to deliver boundary-pushing independent programming across Australia and beyond.
