Puppetry and Movement Workshop

project description

Held over three locations in Lithgow, Mudgee and Rylstone March 15 and 16, the two-hour workshops offered playful and dynamic exploration of puppetry and movement. These workshops were one of seven projects funded in 2025 by Arts OutWest’s Country Arts Support Program, devolved funding from the NSW Government. Keila and Renata took this project to reflect on their recent journey to Pesta Boneka in Yogykarta 2024 to create an experience for the regional NSW community and to dive deeper into their current practice. Keila's; Two Bodies One Mind is the work they performed on the international stage in Yogykarta. It was a magnificent and very successful tour of the show. They were inspired most by the aspect of community and the infinite ways to grow the imagination , and worked creatively to bring these aspects to the workshop. "I’m still feeling the gentle joy and connection from participating in Sunday’s workshop" - Kumari "Guys, what an awesome workshop. You wove movement and puppetry together beautifully. The opportunity to make our own Paper-Mate and tell stories with it was the best! Complaint… not long enough! Thanks Renata and Keila." – Bryan

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
