biography

Our bookshop doesn't just sell great books, we also contribute to change that matters, by supporting and advocating for refugees living within Sydney and the Blue Mountains. We've worked with refugees & asylum seekers for over 10 years, both in Australia and overseas. We're committed to our friends in this community and recognise the daily systemic injustice faced by many of the people we work with. We're a LGBTQI+ registered safe place. And a safe place for anyone regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, politics or anything else. Remembering and addressing this Nation's past is imperative in seeking justice and for individual and collective healing processes. We respectfully acknowledge the Darug and Gundungurra people, who are the traditional owners of the land on which we are fortunate to live and work. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. Being based within the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains also reminds us everyday of the need to care for and protect our precious ecosystem.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
