biography

Peter Hickey Landscape Photographer Blue Mountains I have visited the Blue Mountains since many years, and have grown to love the Blue Mountains flora and fauna. In 2000 my wife and I decided in 2000 to live here. Since 2016, I started taking landscape photos of the area. The Blue Mountains are prone to devastating bush fires, but we have also experienced periods of heavy rain, flooding and long dry spells. These extraordinary events have challenged me into capturing the effects of the extreme weather patterns in my photographs. I have discovered many off the beaten tracks in my travels by foot and mountain bike and this has led to my compilation of beautiful Blue Mountains images. My photographs have featured in four Exhibitions at the NPWS Heritage Centre at Blackheath over the past years. The first exhibition was just after the fires in 2020 called “Wilderness, Fires and Waterfalls” which had many images post fires included. In each of the following years there was a ‘Recovery’ theme, ‘Our Backyard’ theme and earlier this year ‘Blue Mountains Calling’ Exhibition. I have images on show at various Medical Centres and in a cafe in the upper Mountains plus a large print of Govetts Leap on the wall at Nepean Private Hospital Entrance. I hope you enjoy the hospitality at Eden and your coffee plus The images I have created hanging on the café walls, Regards. Peter Hickey

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
