biography

Liza Allen is a ceramic artist based in Wentworth Falls, on Dharug and Gundungurra Country in the Blue Mountains. With over 35 years of experience in pottery, Liza has recently dedicated more time to her ceramic practice, creating both functional ware and whimsical bird sculptures that reflect her unique artistic vision. Working across hand-building and wheel-thrown techniques, Liza crafts pieces that are both practical and expressive. Her functional ceramics are designed for everyday use, while her bird sculptures showcase her playful and imaginative approach to form and design. Liza's work has been featured in several exhibitions, including the Blue Mountains Pottery Fair and the Blue Mountains Creative Arts Centre Members Exhibition. Her contributions to these events highlight her active engagement with the local arts community and her commitment to sharing her craft with a broader audience. Through her ceramics, Liza invites viewers to appreciate the beauty of handmade objects and the joy of artistic expression. Her work embodies a deep connection to the natural environment of the Blue Mountains and a lifelong dedication to the art of pottery.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
