Surrounded by rainforest and perched at over 1,000 metres above sea level, Mount Tomah offers a unique microclimate and a remarkable vantage point — both literal and creative. Home to the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, it attracts artists, scientists and makers working at the intersection of art and ecology.

MTNS MADE creatives in Mount Tomah include sculptors, installation artists, garden designers, sound artists, and environmental storytellers. Many engage directly with the local landscape, using natural materials, scientific knowledge and site-responsive practice to shape their work.

This is a place for slow observation, seasonal awareness and immersive creativity. The presence of the Botanic Garden fosters collaboration between creative and scientific disciplines, and provides regular opportunities for exhibition, education and public programming.

Mount Tomah’s remoteness offers both solitude and connection — a balance that supports deep focus and regular exchange with the broader Blue Mountains creative ecology.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
