'Soul'd Out' Winter Magic 2024 Youth Stage

project description

I was the event organiser, curator and audio operator for the 'Soul'd Out' 2024 Winter Magic Youth Stage. I collaborated with Dave from the Soul Side Cafe, Retro Rehash, MYST, Headspace, RRT, ACRC and BMCC to put on 2 days of live music at the Soul Side Cafe. The event hosted 19 acts featuring a wide range of genres from singer/songwriters to rappers, funk/soul bands to metal bands. Through collaboration and careful planing the event had a safe and community oriented environment which saw crowds of all ages drawn together. One moment that stuck with me was overhearing 2 young people after seeing someone they knew from school on stage saying to each other that they wanted to try to play music too which after all the work that went into making the event, made it all worth it knowing that this community was inspiring it's members to create art, express themselves and have fun.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
