As part of the inaugural Scary Strangers Comedy Festival, we're throwing down the challenge to comedians, writers, filmmakers, performers and comedy lovers everywhere: to create an original short sketch inspired by a mystery word and become part of Blue Mountains comedy history. Lock the key dates into your calendar, rally your funniest mates, and get ready for the very first Scary Strangers Sketch Comedy Competition. One word. Endless possibilities. Get scary. Get strange. Get sketching. HOW IT WORKS: Registration is completely free and open from Sunday, September 6 until Thursday, September 17. On Friday, September 18, every registered participant will receive the same mystery word of inspiration via email. From that moment, the challenge begins. You'll have two weeks to write, shoot, edit and submit your sketch. Final submissions are due by 5pm on Saturday, October 3. Then, on Friday, October 16, every eligible entry will hit the big screen at our Sketch Competition Viewing Party at Wentworth Falls School of the Arts at 8:30pm. ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
