Designed for performers looking to strengthen their scene work, ensemble skills, and storytelling instincts, this program will guide you through the unique structure, rhythms, and performance techniques that make the Spokane Format such a dynamic and rewarding form. Over eight weeks, you'll develop stronger connections with your scene partners, explore character and relationship-driven play, and learn how to build compelling long-form sets from audience suggestions. Each class combines focused skill-building exercises with format-specific rehearsals, giving you the tools and confidence to perform the Spokane Format in front of a live audience. The course culminates in a graduation performance at the Scary Strangers Comedy Festival on Sunday October 18, where you'll showcase your work alongside fellow students and festival performers. Whether you're an experienced improviser looking to expand your long-form repertoire or a performer eager for a new challenge, this course offers a supportive environment to grow, collaborate, and take the stage. Course Highlights: - Learn the structure and mechanics of the Spokane Format - Strengthen scene work, listening, and group mind - Explore character, relationship, and thematic development - Build confidence performing long-form improv - Perform in a graduation show at the Scary Strangers Comedy Festival Experience Level: Recommended for participants with some prior performance, theatre or improvisation experience Instructors: Ru Halwala & Tom Stevenson aka Scary Strangers Classes: 8 Weeks, Sundays August 16 to October 11, 1-3:30PM Break: No class on October 4 (King's Birthday Public Holiday) Final Performance: Graduation Show at the Scary Strangers Comedy Festival on October 18th 6PM Location: All happening at Wentworth Falls School of the Arts Throughout the course, we may capture behind-the-scenes photos, short video content, and participant interviews to share as part of the Scary Strangers festival storytelling and promotional material.
